| What anouther great event at HillTop. This was the first Stick contest that was held here and it looks like there will be many more in the future. We had a total of 17 pilots with 8 in the A Class and 9 in the B Class. We had alot of out of towners for the A Class including Mac Hodges from Hodges Hobbies. Along with some others such as David Grantham, BJ Thomas, Buddy Curtis, Trey Hooten, and Robin Drake. They really put on a show for the A Class and it looks like the tree just made for a more eventfull day with Buddy learning how to land in one. 1st place went to David Grantham, 2nd Mac Hodges, and 3rd to BJ Thomas. Also in the A Class were 2 HillToppers John and Mike Stevens.

| The B Class included many HillToppers but none more exciting to watch than Mike Arnold, he just started flying this past year and at 13 years old he has really become a good flyer. He Finished 2nd in the event with Brady Wood of Loganville Hobbies 1st with a great showing and 3rd place going to Robert. The rest of the scores can be found in the Excel Files listed below. Here are a few of the videos that were shot of the Hodges group. | | | | | HillTopFlyers A Scores HillTopFlyers B Scores

Hilltopperz,This past Sunday Hilltopperz and their guests (over 80 of them) put on the best Hill Top Fun Fly ever!
Starting off, we devoured what can only be described as gourmet hamburgers cooked up with great sides such home made potato salad, slaw and baked beans. My hat goes off to Brendan Watson for making a truly delicious lunch for all eighty of us. My thanks go out as well to Don Grissom for donating the hamburger/hot dog buns along with his trademark Little Debbie deserts. The first flying event was a combat demonstration pitting me against Brady Wood. Neither of us were able to cut the other's streamer, but we did manage to show everyone how to perform a mid air. Brady's airplane went straight down and mine landed with a broken wing. Don Pruitt did a masterful job of narrating the event.
Then comes Richard Hart and his spectacular 3D performance. Richard didn't get more than 15 feet in the air on his initial take off than he starts twisting and turning his large scale gasser aircraft into all kinds of contortions. Richard did a tail touch while hovering just a few feet in front of himself. That's a tricky maneuver, but with the wind, it was even trickier! That was a fabulous show Richard. Thank you being a Hill Top star performer. If you didn't attend the Fun Fly then you've probably never seen a fuselage drag race. It's amazing how fast a wingless fuselage will get going in just a blink of the eye. The race was won by Mike Stevens after surviving several competitive heats.
Finally we raffled off our remaining items. Included in the raffle were two Ultra Sticks, (one donated by Charles Sully) A P-40 Warhawk, a Bonnie 20 and a trainer aircraft. That's five aircraft in the raffle! In addition we had multiple gallons of fuel, tools, a transmitter case and other great items. It was like Christmas in October to the many Hilltopperz who won prizes. Thank you Brady Wood for making many of these items available. Wayne Thomason made a specially designed squirrel cage to hold the hundreds of raffle tickets. It worked like a charm.
The Paint Ball shoot came next with everyone who wanted to getting a chance to aim and fire. No aircraft were shot down, but some battle damage was reported. Sometimes the paint balls were so being fired so rapidly it sounded like machine gun fire. Finally Mike Stevens demonstrated his father's unusual German aircraft with a side car cockpit. It is truly a unique aircraft, scratch built by his father. Both aircraft in the picture below were flown during the day by Mike. They are impressive on the ground and even more impressive in the air with their great sounding gasoline engines.
After a raffle and an All Stick Fly we settled into the limbo. The Team Stevens guys (Mike & John Stevens, Trey Hooten and David Grantham) put on their extraordinary airmanship display with David Grantham taking first place. But our local flyers didn't let the experts intimidate them. Our Hill Top Chef, Brendan Watson and Todd Wood also displayed their skill in getting under the tape. Mike Arnold also flew the limbo, showing everyone how it is done. I know Mike has never done the limbo before and here he does it, and does it well, in front of eighty people. Great job Mike!
I want to thank our club communications officer, Jack Cronin, for taking some wonderful pictures during the event. All the pictures he took will be displayed on the club web site in the not too distant future. Jack is a skillful photographer and his talent really shows in the pictures. Many thanks to all the club officers and all the other members and guests who participated and helped before, during and after the Fun Fly to make it a truly wonderful day. Hilltopperz really went all out to bring the Hill Top Fun Factor to the highest level its ever been. |

Hilltopperz,What an outstanding Fun Fly!! Hilltopperz and their guests created the "Most Fun - Fun Fly" that I've ever been to! From the first turn of a prop to the final raffle, we hit the ball out of the park with high class entertainment, the spirit of good times and the joy of RC flight that is the hallmark of Hill Top Flyers. My thanks goes out to all the club members and guests who made this happen. That includes members who brought food (which is just about everyone), to every member and guest who flew during the event and to every non-flying guest who attended and watched RC flying reach a pinnacle of enjoyment. The combat demonstration was superb. We saw Basil Congro answer the call of the wild with his Eagle electric. We watched as Mike Stevens put Bob McElroy's smokin' airplane through its paces and then we were treated to the Stevens and Company Airshow. After the great lunch we had the "All Stick All Fly" during which I believe we had 12 airplanes in the air at one time. That was followed by the fabulous Limbo event and the Paint Ball Shoot Down. Finally James Robertson and Travis amazed us with the airborne contortions of RC helicopter flying. In addition to the flying, we raffled off four different airplanes and a variety of other assorted RC accessories. It was the biggest raffle in my Hill Top memory. The following are a few of the many pictures Don Pruitt took throughout the day. To see all of the pictures he took, go to www.hilltopflyers.com check out the photo gallery.

Above is a part of "Team Stevens". They are from left to right, David Grantham, John Stevens, Robin Drake and Robert Gambescia. These guys REALLY put on a show with their speedy warbirds. When you see airplanes moving in excess of 100 mph flying inches off the ground and under the limbo tape, you've got to be impressed. Missing from this picture are team members Mike Stevens, Bill Stevens and Trey Hooten. Team Stevens members are no doubt among the best RC pilots in the world and they showed us their extraordinarily skillful flying Saturday. It was definitely exciting to watch. Lin Cordray with Mike Stevens and Bob McElroy prepare to launch Bob's Stearman Smoker for the demonstration flight. Mike did an excellent job of flying an airplane I don't believe he's ever flown before. All airplanes fly the same, but they all fly a little bit different as well. Another great job, Mike! This is a view of less than half the field looking west during the Fun Fly. We had over 60 people attend the event, which is a record attendance That's it folks! The whole day was just way beyond wonderful. Again my thanks to everyone who made the day the best yet in the annals of Hill Top Flyers. It can only get better from here. Dave Eaton |

Perry Georgia is the site of the one of the nation's largest RC swap meets. Here's a picture of the action in just one of the three buildings dedicated to buying and selling RC stuff. In a fourth building they were demonstrating electric helicopter and 3D flight. It's amazing what can be done with a transmitter, a receiver, electrons and a little foam. |
